About The Rhône-SaôneThe Rhône is one of Europe's major rivers; the smaller Saône is its biggest tributary. Together, they offer cruisers roughly 800 miles of river routes to explore, from the Swiss Alps to the Mediterranean and points above and beyond.
Rhône highlights include its passage through Lake Geneva, Switzerland and France's biggest lake, and Lyon, the largest city along the river's course. The Saône rises from a source at Vioménil in Vosges (whose cantons and communes include Domrémy, hometown of Joan of Arc) and flows southward through eastern France before merging with the Rhône in Lyon; from there, their combined waters travel to Valence, Avignon, and Arles before emptying into the Mediterranean Sea.
